EST. CHAUVINISM

Similar to the history of Jesus, the Establishment interpretation of the ideas of The Founders are quite different from what can be understood by reading their words. Not only The Founders had a diverse and sophisticated view of government, but also what in 2022 could be called “influencers” also could be eye-opening. For example, having heard but never read the ideas of Thomas Paine, who is said to have influenced views for liberty, to read his ideas is fascinating and heartening.
Religious freedom has been written into the the Constitution but that did nothing to alleviate religious chauvinism. https://twitter.com/LeaMaric/status/1504932861207625731 –They did this to Croatians when many fled the war and would only offer help if they’d renounce Catholicism lol. Very nice, thank you.–end of twitter info–
The impact of bad behavior that stirs trouble among foreign nations seems to be a disturbing part of the US character. Economic chauvinism toward other nations, and actually toward those within the USA, seems to be an acceptable quality for Establishment. To have reached the place where everything is for sale and everything has a price tag, isn’t a sign of good governance, but seems more nearly the ideal of “running government like a business”.
As we listen to the new attention on war crimes, we might consider that a reason the USA isn’t in the ICC is due to fear for American leaders.
https://archive.globalpolicy.org/international-justice/the-international-criminal-court/us-opposition-to-the-icc.html —The United States government has consistently opposed an international court that could hold US military and political leaders to a uniform global standard of justice. The Clinton administration participated actively in negotiations towards the International Criminal Court treaty, seeking Security Council screening of cases. If adopted, this would have enabled the US to veto any dockets it opposed. When other countries refused to agree to such an unequal standard of justice, the US campaigned to weaken and undermine the court. The Bush administration, coming into office in 2001 as the Court neared implementation, adopted an extremely active opposition. Washington began to negotiate bilateral agreements with other countries, insuring immunity of US nationals from prosecution by the Court. As leverage, Washington threatened termination of economic aid, withdrawal of military assistance, and other painful measures. The Obama administration has so far made greater efforts to engage with the Court. It is participating with the Court’s governing bodies and it is providing support for the Court’s ongoing prosecutions. Washington, however, has no intention to join the ICC, due to its concern about possible charges against US nationals.–end of globalpolicy info–
https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2021/10/how-the-us-pursuit-of-julian-assange-is-a-distraction-from-impunity-for-war-crimes/ —
In 1791, in an attempt to stop the publication of the first part of Thomas Paine’s seminal work, The Rights of Man, the British government tried to buy up the copyright.
The publisher refused to sell.
The following year, after the second part of the work was published, the government tried a more direct tactic, charging Paine with seditious libel.
Outraged, Paine listed the things his book had done – exposing fraud, ending war and promoting universal peace – stating “if these things be libellous…let the name of libeller be engraven on my tomb.”
More than 200 years on, governments around the world still endeavour to suppress damning information and target those responsible for exposing it.
Today, the US government is attempting to overturn an earlier ruling blocking Julian Assange’s extradition. The appeal, scheduled to last two days, is expected to determine whether the High Court in London will accede to the US administration’s ongoing request that the Wikileaks founder be extradited to the US.
If sent back to America, Assange would stand trial on espionage charges and if convicted could face a prison sentence of up to 175 years. The American prosecutors claim he conspired with a whistleblower – army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning – to obtain classified information. They say the publication of this evidence put their assets at risk.–end of amnesty info–
What does the rejection of participation in the ICC, charges of war crimes for non-US leaders, and prosecution of journalist Assange, say about what the US public finds acceptable?
https://portside.org/2022-03-18/us-would-be-firmer-ground-declaring-putin-war-criminal-if-george-w-bush-had-been-tried –The United States has not signed the Rome Statute that authorizes the International Criminal Court in the Hague. You don’t really get to ask that court to act as you would like if you aren’t a member. Especially if you aren’t a member because you don’t want American officials ever to be investigated for . . . war crimes. The court can only take up the cases of individuals in states that are signatories unless the UNSC forwards the case. So Mr. Putin and his generals are off limits, just as American officials and military men are. Most successful prosecutions by the ICC have been of deposed African despots. Not only has the US not signed the Rome Statute, the Trump administration threatened the sitting judges of the ICC if it were to investigate possible US war crimes in Afghanistan and Israeli war crimes in Palestine, then actually put judges under US sanctions. So all those Republican senators who supported Trump’s and then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s bizarre and slimy actions against the court but who now want the judges to take up the case of Mr. Putin are pond scum hypocrites.

Why is this legal? –https://www.facebook.com/jenny.lsk.9/posts/10220297744179939 — Is this Free enterprise or something insidious? Climate Change is said to be linked to overuse of fossil fuels. Why is Assange prosecuted while price gouging is supported? Should wars be waged to support this system?
https://popularresistance.org/black-caucus-fails-on-ukraine/ –Now the CBC is a shell of its former self. Conyers and others from his era would not be welcome among its current membership. They say nothing about Ukraine that isn’t a chapter and verse recitation of Biden administration policy. Even members such as Barbara Lee , still famous for providing the sole vote against the Afghanistan invasion, mouths dangerous platitudes.“This is a march against democracy. What Putin wants to do is remake and reshape the Soviet Union. It’s not going to stop with Ukraine. No democracy is exempt from what Putin’s moves are, not even against our own country.” She went on to blame Russia for election interference and the usual charges that have held sway ever since Hillary Clinton’s 2016 defeat.–end of popularresistance info–
https://popularresistance.org/washington-rushes-to-hide-its-octopus-ned-funding-in-ukraine/ –As Russia finally invaded Ukraine – on a rationale similar to that of the US invasion of Iraq, but with greater substance – Washington rushed to delete funding details of Ukraine groups through its Congress-funded ‘National Endowment for Democracy’ (NED).As US Professor John Mearsheimer said, Washington created the crisis in Ukraine, hoping to surround and fragment Russia, using NATO expansion and its Neo-Nazi allies. Instead, it seems that Russia will dismantle Ukraine. In the meantime, the U.S. in decline uses financial assets and networks to subvert most of the world.–end of popularresistance info–
