HAPPY VALLEY
HAPPY VALLEY
The discussion on C-Span opened the door in the minds of some people of bygone days in Happy Valley, AKA The Southern Tier of NYS. A presumption is totalitarianism.

Topics of late in Happy Valley touch upon whether democracy should include hierarchical and patriarchal control……for their own good. Good discussion; let’s consider. And this is indeed the question of the day, that strongly suggests racism and also the reproductive rights of women. Both of these topics also must include the economy of the discussion, but rarely does, because equity and equality rarely go together, and the hierarchical Establishment is all about self-enrichment which inevitably involves the poverty of the other…….anywhoo…..
Happy Valley is a strongly immigrant public, going back 100 years, and meandering through 2 World Wars in Europe, from which many said immigrants migrated. The mix is wonderful; the ideas are telling. And this is from only the opinion and observation of one person.
Some immigrants who lived under the culture of Mussolini have described admiration for his tactic. This can be open to question.
Also the economy of Happy Valley was strongly influenced by our pride and joy of IBM, that has a difficult history of having associated with Hitler. Happy Valley also enjoys a vital and vibrant Jewish community that is quite beneficial to the local lifestyle. As they say, life is complicated.
Some people see Happy Valley as a delightful petri dish for societal observation. This is a reason some people are interested in the give and take between local-community governance and totalitarianism.
For example, some politicians are supporting authority in the hands of the locals, with the wealth of the region staying within local control. Other politicians seem comfortable with cronyism of patriarchy and a so-called strong man culture.
This is fun and should be explored. Some people see this as the equity vs equality discussion. The first discussion is as to whether both can co-exist. Consider that hierarchy and equity are founded on exploitation of others and nature. This needs explanation.
Traditionally and due to character of some people, they seem to see as their right, the violation of the human, civil, and natural rights of others. Quite smoothly they slide into sexism as theirs to flourish within the ideals of economy. In capitalism, “the economy” is justification for all things brutal and in a more fair system, would be criminal. In other words, organized crime is justifiable when it has to do with the greed of hierarchy. Some people will naturally question this ideal.
When a society has been founded first upon the traditional homeland of the democratically-inclined Indigenous People called the Haudenosaunee in NYS–
Native American Maps (and Ideas) that Shaped the Nation | Timeless—
It looks like an early rendering of New York (named for the British Duke of York and Albany), but is actually the territory of the indigenous Haudenosaunee, also known as the Iroquois Confederacy or Six Nations, as it existed in 1720. The Haudenosaunee (Ho-de-no-SHOW-nee) nations had been founded on the territory of what is now New York centuries earlier.
“It would be very strange,” Franklin wrote to a friend in 1751, “if six nations of ignorant savages should be capable of forming a scheme for such a union, and be able to execute it in such a manner as that it has subsisted for ages, and appears indissoluble, and yet that a like union should be impracticable for ten or a dozen colonies, to whom it is more necessary and must be more advantageous.”The original nations of the confederacy were the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga and Seneca, with the Tuscarora added later.
But it was the Haudenosaunee’s constitution, the Great Law of Peace, that proved far more influential on life in America. Benjamin Franklin, one of the nation’s Founding Fathers, was intrigued by how the Great Law balanced power among local and regional interests and among different tribes.
In the early 1750s — more than three decades before the U.S. Constitution was written — Franklin was painfully aware how united French forces routinely exploited the differences among the fledgling British Colonies. He saw in the Haudenosaunee constitution a path for his own people.–end ofnativeamericanmaps info–
—-And then followed by the motley crowd of immigrants fleeing World Wars, with different views, the result will be interesting.
So Happy Valley has a network of crony strong men believing they are the leaders we need. This is open to the discussion that should be happening.
An example is the manifestation of the Mirabito Stadium that is a local-wealth-leaching enterprise built among out-of-town landlord buildings that are empty and attracting squatters. This feels unhealthy, but lucrative to politicians requiring big-money campaign donors; as if we couldn’t anticipate this.
And getting back to the C-Span guest Jacob Heibrunn, one agrees with his assessment of Putin and the apparent US patriarchal envy of strong men that seems to have expanded. Putin has expressed his preference of Biden as President. The starry-eyed, toy-oriented capitalistic hierarchy that has created a class of quasi children in America, would believe this Russian-style humor. Sure, let’s believe everything Putin says, why not?
And not to defend Biden who will not get one’s vote any more than will Trump, but was Hunter hanging with Daddy during his drug-addicted business days? Anyone who believes that was never either a parent or a child.
America is still working on awakening; hopefully it will happen before election day.
