CONSUMER OR CITIZEN?
One has noticed that Openthebooks appear to lean Conservative. The militarization of local law enforcement appears to promote hierarchical interests both Democratic and Republican. Similar to foreign military involvement of the US, nation against nation hurts all local community members for the benefit of oligarchs who use patriotism as the reason for war when it is more about personal oligarchical wealth retention.

It isn’t illegal for political cronies to endorse others for public office. Transparency and discussion could keep honest, local elections.

BROOME COUNTY SHERIFF OFFICE—$562,425.00
–end of marshallproject info–
This seems like a startlingly high amount of military equipment for Broome County, NY, in comparison with other areas in NYS and apparently Pa. But crony politics in Broome County also increases interest and curiosity. Consider anecdotal observation over recent years—
*The old Broome County Sheriff was reported by the local newspaper to have moonlighted for a fossil fuel company while serving as Sheriff
*Old Sheriff endorsed his Deputy Sheriff for NYS Senator, which public office was won by said Deputy
*New NYS Senator and Old Broome County Sheriff endorsed their choice for DA
*This feels a degree too cozy for some people
*The crony-endorsed candidate for DA did not win the election
*DP turned NYS Senator decided he was unhappy in his new position, and ran for Sheriff, and won that position
*Old Sheriff had retired, and now with a new election for DA looming, Old Sheriff has endorsed new DA and New Sheriff-once-NYS-Senator is endorsing the failed candidate for DA…..what’s up with the split?
This feels like that troublesome gray area covered by ethics. Ethics seem to be too Pollyanna-ish for our brave new world
A glaring example seems to be an incredibly, ludicrously immoral Supreme Court.
https://www.vox.com/2022/3/29/22999755/supreme-court-clarence-thomas-voting-rights-democracy-elections-ginni —
In more than three decades on the Supreme Court, Thomas has consistently voted to make it harder for many Americans to have their vote count; to erode institutions, like a free press, that are essential to democracy; and to dismantle nearly a century’s worth of democratically enacted laws on spurious constitutional grounds. Thomas’s opposition to democracy is not rooted in nepotism. It appears to be quite principled.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/no-mention-of-ginni-thomas-corruption –U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and his wife Ginni Thomas are under fresh scrutiny as yet another revelation, this one reported by the Washington Post on Thursday evening shows Ginni received tens of thousands of dollars in off-the-book compensation from a powerful right-wing nonprofit shortly before the group “soon would have an interest before the court”—a pivotal voting rights case.

This seems like a textbook example of meritorious behavior. Some people on MSM news shows have articulated their belief that “we are a meritocracy”. FACTually, a Democratic campaign strategist so spoke. One sees as much truth as FACT in his statement.
The above several bits of current reality feel like a textbook example of dictatorship. Greed may be at the bottom of these examples, and one includes endorsement of Joe Biden by Jim Clyburn in these examples.https://moguldom.com/298458/cornel-west-takes-off-on-jim-clyburn-for-being-owned-and-pimped-by-big-pharma-industry/
C-Span this morning hosted a discussion about the new AI scare that humanity will succumb to its will. Considering back to the printing press, has this all ready been the case? —
https://wildhunt.org/2023/05/opinion-against-reading.html –Let us then harness this inspiration, this power and take it to the next level. Let us go beyond mere media consumption and actually use the written word as it was intended, as a resource, and not as an objective. Let books still be made, but may they truly bring something new to the table, establish new paradigms, shed light to domains of learning that are still eschewed and especially, let’s truly engage with these works. Finally, let us look beyond the written word, let us be inspired to influence the material world as well as the spiritual one.

One has spoken out against technology that generally becomes the master of humanity rather than its servant. The way in which anything is used is dependent upon the awareness of the user. To become automatic consumers is a problem. This is a reason one so vehemently challenged the mindless use by Obama as “consumer” when he spoke of the US citizens. Was this lazy, diabolical, or compliant to hierarchical desire? Only Obama knows.
But as in the Broome County, NY quasi-cronyism system that is in play, questions could be asked.
Cronyism seems embedded in Supremacy types of mindset that presume authority over others. Violence predicated upon personal presumption and pique seems rising. — https://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news/video/authorities-identify-nyc-subway-rider-who-put-jordan-neely-into-deadly-chokehold-173075525736

But on Thursday, jurors for writer E. Jean Carroll’s sexual assault and defamation lawsuit against the former president heard a portion of an October 2022 deposition in which Trump appeared to go further—standing by what he said on the Access Hollywood tape. “Historically, that’s true with stars,” he said.
When Carroll’s lawyer asked, “True with stars that they can grab women by the pussy?” Trump replied, “If you look over the last million years, I guess that’s been largely true. Not always, but largely true. Unfortunately or fortunately.”

https://www.rt.com/russia/575879-car-russian-political-activist-writer-prilepin/ –Responsibility for the attack was claimed by a radical Ukrainian movement called Atesh, which said that it “had been hunting Prilepin since the start of this year.”
After the Western-backed coup in Kiev in 2014, Prilepin emerged as a staunch supporter of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, which broke free from Ukraine’s rule and later joined Russia. In 2017, he formed his own volunteer battalion, taking the position of political officer. In late January, the writer’s press service said that Prilepin had signed a contract with Russia’s National Guard and set off for the conflict zone.

As one who would be perfectly contented to retain the Senate if they adhered to Oaths of Office more than to Citizens United campaign donations, one is interested in a topic raised as to the reason we maintain the US Senate—-
