SELF DETERMINATION
A reason I love NYS is that it is a hotbed of responsible citizens. This is curious alongside a propensity to vote into positions of power, patriarchal Establishment types who seem to disregard local community wishes. Authoritarianism conflicts with democracy.

Latest news! On June 22 our lawyers sent a notice to the Supreme Court in Cortland, NY to petition the court to vacate and nullify the Town of Vestal Town Board’s actions in approving the rezoning of Bunn Hill Road by creating a PDD. The notice of this petition and the entire verified petition is attached as follows:

The international local community is familiar with imperialism and the new normal of “running government like a business”, especially violent when that government embraces capitalism which itself is hierarchical and interested in benefits for the top echelon at the expense of human resources (people) and natural resources (environment).

For those impacted by record temperatures, flash floods, rising sea levels, and severe drought, climate change can be deadly. It’s not just extreme weather that threatens lives, however. Also, it’s extreme actions by extreme people, according to Global Witness, an NGO whose mission is protecting the environment and the human rights of those who defend it. In a new report on violence against land and environmental defenders—its 10th annual report on the subject—it says 1,733 people have been murdered in the last decade because of their environmental advocacy. That’s one murder every two days.–end of treehugger info–

The following article reminds us that terminology and language itself can be a form of tyranny, if only one perspective is permitted or found to be of import.
https://popularresistance.org/a-guide-to-decolonize-language-in-conservation/ –Scientific evidence shows that Indigenous people understand and manage their environment better than anyone else: 80% of Earth’s biodiversity can be found in Indigenous territories. The best way to protect biodiversity is therefore to respect the land rights of Indigenous peoples – the best conservationists.
Nevertheless, the mainstream conservation model today is still, just as in colonial times, “Fortress Conservation”: a model that creates militarized Protected Areas accessible only to the wealthy on the lands of Indigenous peoples. This “conservation” is destroying the land and lives of Indigenous peoples. But this is where most of the Western funding for nature protection is going.

Kelly Dittmar on Role of Female Candidates in Campaign 2022
Kelly Dittmar talked about analysis of women running for office in November 2022 and the record number nominated in gubernatorial races.–end of c-span info–
As one who has long believed in the value of diversity in governmental positions that reflect the diversity of the public, one can also be troubled by female politicians who seem to be required to posture as short men as pertains to perspective. If the model of leadership is molded according to hierarchical Establishment traditional principles, the opportunity to enact a less violent society is lost. As alluded to previously, that some voters recognize leadership as a form of brutality, competition, and exploitation needs to be questioned or at least spoken of. An example of which one considers is the diatribe that women are “too emotional”, while voting for leaders who arrogantly speak about grabbing women, which seems the epitome of emotional possession by the perpetrator, is curious.
From moveon.org –Please join me in signing this petition from environmental groups calling on the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) to prohibit fracking waste disposal and water withdrawal for fracking in the Delaware River Watershed, the drinking water source for over 15 million people. Fracking wastewater is toxic and radioactive, and it endangers the watershed and the people who depend on it.
Thanks to tireless activism, including yours, the DRBC – made up of representatives of the governors of Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and the federal government – finally banned fracking in the watershed last year. But now they must complete the job and ban the disposal of fracking wastewater and the withdrawal of water for fracking. This is essential to protect the water supply, the river, public health, and as responsible action for the climate.
Sign the petition to tell the Delaware River Basin Commission to revise the pending regulations and vote for a full fracking ban, including fracking wastewater disposal and water withdrawal.
Here’s the petition and its language: https://actionnetwork.org/forms/letter-supporting-a-full-fracking-ban-to-the-delaware-river-basin-commission
Thank you!
