MAY DAY

May Day is an American holiday. Who knew?
https://www.rbth.com/lifestyle/330314-may-first-in-russia –May 1 became International Labor Day after the tragedy at Haymarket Square in Chicago, Illinois, USA. In early May 1886, demonstrations were held in Chicago and other US cities demanding an eight-hour working day. It might seem a no-brainer today, but in the late 19th century many tycoons did not believe that workers had the right to sleep.
Although the USSR ceased to exist in 1991, May Day is still perceived as a very Soviet holiday.

Thanks to Howie Hawkins of the Green Prty for reminding us that May Day is a thoroughly American holiday. Perhaps we should celebrate.

Jeffrey McCall Discusses This Week’s Cable News Firings & State of U.S. News Media
DePauw University Professor Jeffrey McCall discusses the recent firings of both Fox News’ Tucker Carlson and CNN’s Don Lemon and what the future holds for cable news networks.–end of c-span info–
9:38AM–guest McCall–paraphrase–The public needs to remember the character of the cable news shows is for profit, depending upon ratings rather than information.
Indoctrination that has been inculcated into so-called news, education, and politics in the USA is dictatorial in character. For-profit isn’t only embedded in news shows, but also in the educational, nutritional, health, and political systems, with big-money donors owning and controlling the entirety. This is dictatorship. Some Americans have had a difficult time breaking through encased thought to remember freedom, and the FACT that freedom doesn’t require dictatorial guidance for We The People.
Nothing in the US Constitution sanctions political Party control of our elections, but that is currently the dictatorial state of affairs in the USA. And so, many people are finding ways to function politically outside of the dictatorship of the D&R duopoly.—-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2W-FoBYYWjE —

As one who refuses to be herded down the election chute constructed by the D&R duopoly, one has most recently cast Presidential votes for Jill Stein and Howie Hawkins.

The names of write-in candidates often end up being lumped into a single category, unless a write-in hopeful has alerted state election officials or has filled out needed paperwork ahead of time to ensure their ballots are tabulated separately.

Consider that the votes in elections commandeered by the Republican/Democratic duopoly are counted, but write-in votes by the electorate may not be counted. Are these the “Western values” Ukrainians wish? Would those who fought in the Revolutionary War do so in 2023 for this system?
To hold both the knowledge of the reality of the state of American democracy along with supporting “the people of Ukraine” who are gambling their lives to attain “Western values”, when we as Americans know what that means, seems quite diabolical.
Did Russians spread the story in Ukraine about the excellence of “Western values”, that as Americans living the dream understand is exactly propaganda, and should we assist in a Proxy War in Ukraine against Russia, that seems to uplift global oligarchs more than anyone else? Or was the story of “Western values” sold as cynically to American local communities as it may have been to Ukrainian local communities?
But if we can’t be honest with ourselves, how can we be honest with others?
Capitalist hierarchical Establishment MSM could only wish this story was from Russia, to feed the anti-Russian war machine in the USA. Such a story could help to justify American forever wars to spread “Western values” to the hapless members of humanity outside of the USA.

The geography of hope: saving half the earthTending the wildIn one childhood-shattering, never-to-be-forgotten moment I’d heard about the German holocaust from a babysitter who was reading The Diary of Ann Frank. But, since history is told by the conquerors, no one mentioned the centuries-long holocaust in our own country. Awareness seeped in slowly: the relentless, violent push off land, the Trail of Tears, Little Big Horn, Wounded Knee. The wholesale slaughter of the buffalo as the Great Plains were taken over for the benefit of settlers. The coerced move to lands deemed inferior in every state. The abusive Indian schools where children, deprived of parents and home, were forced to go to have their culture wiped out of Part of our national mythos is that the land long inhabited by millions of people was an untouched wilderness when it was “discovered” in 1492. This is dead — and deadly — wrong. From one coast to the other the wilderness the newcomers decried and deemed ripe for their plundering had been carefully tended for millennia. Not by wresting the land from its productive ecosystems and forcing it to grow alien crops, but by fostering the bounty of the ecosystems themselves.. |

Beavers in Chenango County, NY did a magnificent job of crating a wildlife sanctuary, which the road crew dismantled to leave a dry and dead wasteland in its wake. And so goes people and a type of progress that we need to question.****
As one who would be perfectly contented to retain the Senate if they adhered to Oaths of Office more than to Citizens United campaign donations, one is interested in a topic raised as to the reason we maintain the US Senate—-
