SAFETY
Fear more than reason may support the knee-jerk reaction of hyper funding the Pentagon in order to increase defense capabilities at the same time another recent reminder of inordinate danger looms over the public within the US borders as pertains to an obsolete and flimsy energy grid. The pentagon is purported to have misplaced about $22,000,000,000,000, that’s with a “T”.
Is money laundering byway of funding foreign wars a better cover?
Received from peace action nys (PANYS.org)—-
Last Wednesday, December 7th marked a momentous day in New York City. Activists from Peace Action New York State, Move the Money NYC, and more rallied on the steps of City Hall to celebrate the introduction of a Move the Money resolution (Res. 423-2022) by Council Member Carlina Rivera. The resolution would put the City on official record as opposing the bloated Pentagon budget that Congress passes each year, robbing cities and their residents of the funds needed for vital public resources such as schools, housing, food aid, modern subways, and sanitation.
Certain members of our government continue to propose cutbacks to public programs under the guise of “there’s no money!” But we know that there is plenty of money — it’s just being handed over to defense contractors and weapons manufacturers.
According to the 2023 NDAA, the Pentagon is slated to get over $858 billion next year. That is more than 50% of the federal discretionary budget. In the words of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, “every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.”
New Yorkers understand that a truly secure society is one that cares for its people by providing jobs, housing, healthcare, a clean environment, public transportation, and quality infrastructure. As Mayor Adams proposes budget cuts, it’s important to remember where the money is going and why our needs are not being met.
If you’re a New York City resident, we urge you to contact your City Council Member and urge passage of this important new resolution. And if you haven’t already, we also continue to encourage you to sign the Move the Money-NYC Petition. We thank Council Member Carlina Rivera and the primary co-sponsors for supporting this resolution, and urge the rest of the City Council to do the same.
In Peace & Solidarity,
Peace Action New York State

On the topic of safety within the borders of the US Homeland, consider vehicles. Regulation of corporations is a touchy issue. Most people aren’t proponents for micromanaging. Logic could reign by reinstating the common sense Corporate-Charter Revocation methods that The Founders apparently didn’t reject.https://www.treehugger.com/pedestrian-safety-crisis-united-states-6889544?hid=4246be665c7c525806e26d15079d974213d256e7&did=883362-20221212&utm_campaign=treehugger-daily_newsletter&utm_source=treehugger&utm_medium=email&utm_content=121222&cid=883362&mid=104213873574&lctg=196461004 —
“NHTSA’s decision not to act has left pedestrians at the mercy of heavier and taller vehicles….It is not hyperbole to observe that, left by NHTSA to its own devices, the invisible hand is pushing large numbers of pedestrians to their demise.” –end of treehugger info–
Some people believe erosion of human rights and natural rights in the USA has been promulgated by money in politics in which pro-big-money-interest laws maneuver to violate natural ad human rights for profit. Citizens United combined with www.alec.org seem especially crafted to enable violation of human rights and natural rights legally.
More laws seem less desirable than might be systems of accountability for those who harm with the happy result of profiteering.https://freespeechforpeople.org/model-corporate-charter-revocation-act/ —
https://freespeechforpeople.org/democracy-amendments/ –The Constitution provides for a republican democracy — government of, by, and for the people. We have fought a civil war and enacted constitutional amendments to ensure that that means all the people, not just people of a certain racial background and gender and not just the wealthy few.
But today, radical Supreme Court decisions and a dangerously antiquated electoral system are threatening this fundamental principle that defines who we are as a nation.–end of freespeechforpeople info–

From counterpunch — https://www.counterpunch.org/2022/12/09/roaming-charges-75/ –Say this about the Democrats, they’re no longer the party of chaos. There’s an order to their madness. They march in lockstep to the neoliberal beat, top-to-bottom with very few defections, especially when it comes to crushing the aspirations of working people and the poor. And they send out their most “liberal” figures to deliver the fatal blows. This week it was Sherrod Brown, the champion for the working man from Ohio, who came forth to defend the betrayal of rail workers, claiming that “a strike would have devastated the U.S. economy.”

Fascism and Nazism were the products of the Great Depression. The deteriorating economic situation had disastrous effects on the quality of life and well-being of the popular classes and undermined the credibility and legitimacy of democratic systems and governments in the United States and Europe. Fascism in southern Europe and the United States, and Nazism in central and northern Europe and also in the U.S., capitalized on the resulting discontent. These movements acquired significant influence on both sides of the North Atlantic, ultimately governing several countries of Western Europe.

From counterpunch — https://www.counterpunch.org/2022/12/09/words-ache-indifference-kills/ –While segments of the US body politic remain fixated as so much virtual Netflix on episodic instances of “incitement” to political violence, it is incitement to ignorance that poses the greatest danger to a relatively uninhibited and diverse society … albeit one no longer, if ever, remarkable for its collective thirst for informed thought and acquired education, be it in the classroom or out.
Words are not the enemy … stupidity is.
