COMMON PROSPERITY AND DEMOCRACY
While the USA is experiencing rising chaotic episodes that too often include violence, we could discuss whether a leveling of prosperity could short-circuit aggressive tendencies.

Some people are under informed about American history. One shouldn’t be surprised at the commensurate misunderstanding about world history and the culture about which said individuals are bored and ignorant. To paint with a broad brush all people in Europe as “white” can be soothing and deeply misleading. This may be a reason the simple explanation of support against Russia of “protecting Western values” is sufficient for some people. This seems dangerous and childlike.
Simplification matches the absurdity as heard on corporate-owned-government-influenced MSM of labeling one side as “the good guys” and the other side as the “bad guys”. And so goes popular so-called news shows.

Cal Thomas compared the January 6 insurrection with the George Floyd protests, both of which included violence. A statement from Mr. Thomas included (paraphrase) “who are these people who show up to these protests? Who pays them? Don’t they have jobs? (in reference to George Floyd protesters)
Not to sound like a broken record, but as Bernie Sanders would say about his unchanging message, nothing has changed so my message is the same. A reason that democracy is incompatible with capitalism is that capitalism is restrictive and hierarchical. The restrictions accrue to “lower levels” of humanity, which are inevitable in hierarchy. This lends validity to the revolting phrase from Cal Thomas suggesting people shouldn’t protest because they should be working.
A cost paid by “workers” in capitalism is restriction and lack of control over one’s time. And so hierarchy bemoans protesters who step out of line long enough to raise concerns about human rights violations or environmental violations.
In a free market we would more nearly have self-employment with each individual controlling their own destiny. This carries risks and liability but also offers freedom and dignity. This could also raise discussions about the government/commercial collaboration called public/private partnerships, in which it is presumed the private portion of said partnerships must be with business owners when it could as easily be with business workers, such as in a worker co-op. Especially where upper-echelon ownership of corporations have taken on an international flavor, partnership between government and worker co-ops would support retention of wealth into local communities rather than draining wealth into far-flung locations or foreign nations.
It’s about the money and Citizens United is highly responsible for the turpitude of our system.
William Barber has mounted an excellent campaign to help workers and those he describes as living in poverty (some people would describe them as the people against which laws have been passed to support hierarchy and to maintain a needy supply of workers). Perhaps to challenge a system that doesn’t include free markets could be another direction in which to go.
