A BETTER PATH
With so many meaningful paths that can be followed, why are we on an apparent road to ruin of capitalistic hierarchical control?
As one grateful to live on ancestral homeland of the Haudenosaunee, one shares the great news from this nation. One trusts in the continued sensible notions of society from the reported origins for principles of the US Constitution—–https://mailchi.mp/oneida-nation/oneida-indian-nation-report-march-2021-nation-partnering-with-oneida-county-on-vaccine-distribution-4964869?e=164b4d6ef1 —

One isn’t sure whether one is more delighted to live in proximity to the Oneida Nation, or that a Tibetan Buddhist temple is around a country block away. More reasons I love NYS.
The careless and cavalier disregard for nature and indeed people, by commercial interests, has contributed to the Climate Change that is destroying both. A culture is needed for protection of human rights and environmental rights. Neither can be undermined legitimately by laws put in place by politicians catering to the interests of big-money campaign donors.Received from lakotalaw — Toward the end of last year, I told you about Gidimt’en Checkpoint — which has rapidly become something akin to a Canadian Standing Rock. Right now, the Wet’suwet’en People are standing strong to protect their yintah, or homelands, and the planet we all share from the Coastal GasLink pipeline. But, just as happened with our own movement against the Dakota Access pipeline in 2016-’17, the fossil fuel industry — backed by big banks, the colonial government, and militarized law enforcement — is ignoring their sovereign rights and violently attempting to stamp out Indigenous-led resistance.
That’s why it’s absolutely critical that we do all we can to support the Wet’suwet’en People right now, before this pipeline can further desecrate their yintah. Please email the United Nations: tell them to end human rights abuses on Wet’suwet’en land, and demand that First Nations’ hereditary right to that land be respected. Let the UN know the world is watching. After setting up their Gidimt’en Checkpoint blockade, the Wet’suwet’en People have been subject to violent raids by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, including the use of sniper rifles and police dogs. 30 people have been arrested, including two elders. In one incident, a chainsaw and axes were used to break into homes and arrest movement leaders, journalists, and legal observers. One CBC TV journalist was jailed for three days, and the home he was removed from was subsequently burned to the ground.I’ve also authored a blog detailing some of the history of the Wet’suwet’en struggle for justice. Notably, this pipeline crosses unceded lands under the care of Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs for time immemorial. Their free and prior and informed consent should be the first requirement before any project threatening their sacred headwaters, Wedzin Kwa, can move forward. Their consent has not been given, and their title to the land has been upheld by Canada’s Supreme Court. The violence against Wet’suwet’en land protectors must end and their yintah protected. It’s long past time to stop treating Indigenous People protecting their homelands and Unci Maka — our Grandmother Earth — like terrorists and start listening to our calls for environmental justice.Wopila tanka — thank you for standing strong with the Wet’suwet’en!

That so many Americans choose violence that too often is also connected to greed, ambition, and privilege builds a road through human rights and environmental rights straight into self-interest. We surely need balancing influences at this critical moment. A season of nonviolence is a long time coming—-https://www.winonaladuke.com/events/2022-nonviolenceconference –Inspired by the work of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., César Chávez, and Chief Wilma Mankiller, the annual Season for Nonviolence honors these leaders’ visions for an empowered, nonviolent world. Colleges and universities throughout the country celebrate the Season of Nonviolence by bringing together community partners to educate and empower communities on how to use non-violent methods to create a more peaceful world. The following link speaks of small gardens and eep in mind the garden needn’t even be cultivated. The arbitrary zoning code laws mandate out of existence the places where honey bees thrive, even in urban areas. Wildflowers can be medicinal, beautiful, supremely hardy, and naturally good for people and wildlife. — https://www.treehugger.com/study-small-gardens-important-bees-5216648?utm_campaign=treehugger&utm_medium=email&utm_source=cn_nl&utm_content=26475455&utm_term= –Whether it’s leaving hollow plant stems as nesting sites or making a watering hole for native bees, Treehugger is not short of tips and tricks for more pollinator-friendly gardening practices. Yet if you have only a small, urban garden to tend, it can sometimes be tempting to wish for a lot more space with which to help our furry, flying friends. It turns out, however, that size doesn’t matter all that much. –end of treehugger info–
But if you prefer a cultivated look, avoid chemicals for the sake of wildlife and people.
One suspects that a police state, like fascism, unfolds slowly—-https://popularresistance.org/resistance-to-cop-city-in-atlanta-heats-up-as-construction-is-halted-trees-occupied/ –On Tuesday, January 18th, tree-cutting was reported on social media in the Atlanta Forest, an area of highly contested green-space where both a movie studio and the local police are attempting to clear-cut trees to build expanded studio lots and a state of the art police training facility, which will include a “mock city for first responders to train in.”–end of popularresistance info–In rural Upstate NY, a local Sheriff worried about so-called activists, proposed a police shooting range in a peaceful rural neighborhood. The combination of physical destruction of a peaceful rural region along with obvious psychological intimidation is notable. The local town board rejected the proposal. But that this continues to be insinuated by bureaucrats seems to contribute to expanding process that is contrary to principles of a democratic (small d) Constitutional republic. By the way, this region is heavily pro-2nd-Amendment, but this fiasco of an idea was seen for what it is……strong-arm tactics or at least embarrassing public disregard. Ability to think critically seems alive and well in the Southern Tier of NYS.

The First Amendment, which also applies to states, begins “Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech…” In other words, Carlson losing a few advertisers is not a threat to the First Amendment. No one tried to pass legislation prohibiting Carlson from being a bigot on air. But the government passing laws restricting what thoughts or ideas people can express is a direct attack on Constitutional rights.Today, Republican state legislators are proposing legislation to restrict what teachers can say in their classrooms. This trend started in 2021 — ten such bills have already become law — but has dramatically accelerated in the first few weeks of this year. A new report by PEN America found that in the first three weeks of 2022 “71 bills have been introduced or prefiled in state legislatures across the country” to restrict the speech of teachers.

Several thoughts about the story of the First Amendment and what teachers can say in classrooms–*Capitalism that has erroneously equated with democracy is in FACT hierarchical and therefore authoritarian*A characteristic of capitalism which is an economic model is that in the USA, commercial interests can dictate to employees, standards that don’t comply with the US Constitution under penalty of losing one’s job*Capitalism could be regulated by legislators voted into public office by voters, but the Supreme Court decision called Citizens United legalized corruption in the electoral process, leading to regulatory capture and a subversion away from principles of the US Constitution*Collaboration between commercial interests and government is fascism or organized crime, depending on one’s view*Capitalist Establishment has subverted the definition of free enterprise which is not hierarchical, into capitalism which is hierarchical and authoritarian*When individuals are unencumbered by government mandate that is connected to capitalistic hierarchy (for instance self-employed individuals) mandates from the government are less likely
Even such capitalists as Joe Biden has said the USA is wandering down the path toward fascism. He is not the only person to so intimate. Capitalistic hierarchical Establishment has been at work in the Ukraine, which has a historical relationship with Russia. Too many US pundits have connected Nazi Germany with Russia as being similar when in FACT Russia experienced unimaginable losses at the hands of fascists during WWII. This may be a reason to watch fascism spread in either of the Ukraine and/or the USA, is a problem to Russians. They have seen this happen before.
We are running government like a business—-Received from POGO.org—-https://newrepublic.com/article/165104/congress-ban-stock-market-trading-oust-miscreants?emci=676dc720-f47d-ec11-94f6-c896650d4442&emdi=e238970a-fc7d-ec11-94f6-c896650d4442&ceid=42183 –The practice of what too few people dare to term “insider trading” among members of Congress made news a month ago after an Insider report documented scores of violations of the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge, or STOCK Act, implicating 49 lawmakers and 200 staffers. As Judd Legum noted in a recent edition of the Popular Information newsletter, these includedseveralinfamousinstances of lawmakers making trades based on “non-public information about the COVID-19 pandemic they received during the course of their Senate duties.”–end of pogo info–
Meritocracy has been extolled by Democratic strategists as “our system”. One hopes not…….but fears he is right. It is also dripping with hubris. Insinuation over the superiority due to holding a degree from institutions of higher learning can also be seen as evidence of indoctrination into the Party line, and the Capitalist Party consists of the Democratic/Republican duopoly, in one person’s thoughts.

The topic of tension with Russia included many views from the public. Some people mentioned the corruption in the government of the Ukraine. One wonders how this can be mentioned without also admitting the absurd level of partisanship and corruption in the government of the USA.
Concern about the borders of the Ukraine while ignoring US borders was also mentioned. Borders are an economic construct and developed by governments for reasons of self interest. People left to their own have no borders. Borders have however been a human reality over millennia. Hierarchical interest seems to have converted ideas about national borders into tools of partisan self-interest.
Discernible seems to be connections between fascism and family dynasties. Fascism is used as a description of a process more than for an articulated governmental system. Fascism does seem to be the authoritarian collaboration between commercial interests and government.
Joe Biden in a recent speech spoke of the need of the USA to manufacture our own semi-conductors. That would be smart; but he officiated in an Administration that was rabid to pass TPP and send ever more of our control over manufacturing to foreign nations. Many of the players in Biden’s previous Administration are now installed in his present Administration. If he is displeased over US dependence upon foreign nations, he and his family could stop enriching themselves byway of this process. Interference in the economic process of foreign nations has been typical of past fascism. This may be a portion of the tension in the Ukraine.
But as Biden-associated corporate-owned-politically-influenced media have said “everybody does it”. This is probably the most dismal explanation one can hear from capitalistic sycophants.
One has heard media report that US sanctions against Russia will include computer chips, as though other nations won’t be pleased to ship such products to Russia rather than to the USA. And so the nonsense news continues…
As one who saw the crack down on “activists” coming 25 years ago as young ladies arrogantly advised they no longer needed the “radical feminist stance of the ’70’s”, one can say I told you so, but won’t. But to hear in 2022 that the attacks on women’s rights are unprecedented, one laughs—-https://portside.org/2022-01-24/i-was-underground-abortion-network-roe-v-wade –All that most of us knew about abortion was that it was rare, and that every once in a while, a woman had an illegal abortion and she died from it. When women started talking to each other, they realized that lots and lots of women wanted abortions. Lots of them got them. In many cases, they weren’t very pleasant experiences. You’ve got to remember that in those days, there were no shelves of books in bookstores on women’s health. There was nothing. And women knew very little about how their bodies worked. So we saw our job as really educating women, because knowledge is power. So they would have some power over their own lives.–end of portside info–
Modern-day is flush with information but with a paucity of wisdom and spirit.
A few thoughts from the ’60’s and ’70’s—-*What do they call people who practice the rhythm method? ….parents…..*Not there yet, but after no more abortion will be no more birth control…..cross your legs ladies…..(more dark ’70’s humor)*Women and their MD’s, (like children smoking behind the barn), will use the subterfuge of “going in for a little clean-our”*Women will no longer own the dignity of choice and responsibility as was given to her by The Creator in whatever way you imagine It/He/She/orCauseandEffect, but will need to act like a recalcitrant teenager as regards personal liberty
The right to choose was won once, but times have changed and sycophancy to authority has increased enormously. Ask those who have been there before the attitude required…….you may not win the title of Miss Congeniality…..but you may retain your dignity.
