Institutionalized mummery gyrates to meet the times.
https://wildhunt.org/2023/02/nyt-prints-advice-for-new-witches-from-a-conservative-catholic.html –So it was unsurprising when I came across an article that seemed to be written for new seekers, indeed even targeting people who were exploring astrology, Witchcraft and manifestation, warning them to be cautious as they begin exploring spiritual dimensions. What was surprising was that it was in the New York Times opinion section, written by Ross Douthat, a conservative Catholic. Douthat has a long history of lamenting the waning and indeed collapse (his view) of the traditional institution of Christianity in America.

It took years to realize childhood practice that seemed to be an odd type of Christianity was probably what remained of Eastern European native Paganism after it had been mauled and subjugated by institutionalized religious types such as touched upon in the Wildhunt link above.
Native Americans have their own stories of such colonialism.
https://indigenousvalues.org/decolonization/doctrine-discovery/ —The “Doctrine of Discovery” originated with Papal Bulls (letters from the Pope) issued in the late 1400s. In particular, two bulls from 1452 and 1493 (written only a few short months after Columbus’ return to Spain), authorized the Kings of Portugal and Spain to exploit Africa and the Americas for slaves and lands to enrich the Catholic Church. The Jesuits that came to Onondaga Lake in the 1650s to convert the Onondaga Nation were acting both as missionaries for the Catholic Church (headed by the Pope) and the colonial government of France (headed by the King).
“…invade, capture, vanquish, and subdue all Saracens and pagans…to reduce their persons to perpetual slavery and to take away all their possessions and property.” 1452 from Pope Nicholas V to King Alfonso V of Portugal.–end of indigenousvalues info–

Two Worlds
It makes no difference abroad,
The seasons fit the same,
The mornings blossom into noons,
And split their pods of flame.
Wildflowers kindle in the woods,
The brooks brag all the day;
No blackbird bates his jargoning
For passing Calvary.
Auto-da-fé and judgment
Are nothing to the bee;
His separation from his rose
To him seems misery.

So it raises the thought of which world is profane and which is sacred. Just a thought…..
Consider that Emily Dickinson understood the enormity of “auto-da-fe, while so-called educated modern-day Americans are ignorant of the implications. Also consider the class that officiated “auto-da-fe” are of the same that model current-day educational standards….hmmmm…….
https://www.nps.gov/places/dickinson.htm#:~:text=From%201847%20until%20her%20death,world%20in%20microcosm%2D%2DDickinson –Emily Dickinson, noted American poet, was born and lived out the majority of her life in this 2 ½ story brick house. Always something of a “homebody,” Emily began college in the fall of 1847, but found the required separation from her family and home distasteful. From 1847 until her death, Dickinson did not leave the town of Amherst more than three times, and rarely left even her father’s house, writing in 1868, “I do not cross my father’s ground for any house or town.” Quite content with her isolation–to her the home and its grounds were the world in microcosm–Dickinson began writing poetry in the late 1850s, using her imagination to describe “the panoply of human experience.”

Nestlé’s success is arguably due to its incredible brutality—from inventing the need for mass-scale baby formula leading to the deaths of infants, or redirecting much needed water from impoverished areas to bottle and sell back to the same communities, to exploiting child labor and slavery to gather ingredients for consumer products it admits have no nutritional value—Nestlé is an incredibly unethical company.
