RECOGNIZE ACTIVISTS
Information has surfaced in local-community news reports about attempts from bureaucrats to down-play the legitimacy of citizens attempting to speak to issues of democratic (small d) action as would be expected in our democracy. Law enforcement has called for a “crack-down” on “activists” that seems uniquely contrary to principles of our democratic (small d) Constitutional republic. Along with this FACT is an increasing promotion of gun use with diminishing norms about responsible gun use. Included in this mix is the incorrect assertion that our system is capitalism. Capitalism is hierarchical with a pervasive goal of profiteering. This seems to be a recipe for corruption. We need a discussion about whether we still embrace democracy, which is action by individual people, not by government. We need to discuss whether gun use should be accompanied by responsibility. We need to agree whether corruption should be legalized, when the lawmakers are bought into public office via Citizens United. We have traveled far from logic.
Does “cracking down on activists” seem undemocratic (small d)? Does gun promotion without gun responsibility feel psychotic? Some people have questions. Why do we hear no answers? Is hierarchy beyond accountability?
Earthjustice continues to stand in defense of environmental integrity. Earthjustice was instrumental during the NYS anti-fracking advocacy that led to the NYS fracking ban.

A win for lynx, grizzles, and wolvesDepartment of Justice opens first-ever environmental justice investigation–In Lowndes County, Alabama, over a third of residents tested positive for hookworm — a parasite long-thought eradicated — in a 2017 study. The cause? Exposure to human waste from faulty sewage lines. But instead of fixing the problem, the county health department lied to residents about the study, denying the presence of hookworm altogether.A Texas oil company wants to drill the Everglades

Legislation that puts in place laws that promote exploitation of our environment for cash is rewarded as said profiteers contribute to political campaigns via Citizens United. This feels like corruption and one awaits schooling as to the reason this is not corruption and should not be legislated out of existence.
Monitization (sic) of both people and environment for profit is precisely implicit in capitalism. Is this truly what you want for your family? –https://popularresistance.org/wall-streets-latest-scheme-is-monetizing-nature-itself/ –[E]ven the creators of NACs admit that the ultimate goal is to extract near-infinite profits from the natural processes they seek to quantify and then monetize….Framed with the lofty talk of “sustainability” and “conservation”, media reports on the move in outlets like Fortune couldn’t avoid noting that NACs open the doors to “a new form of sustainable investment” which “has enthralled the likes of BlackRock CEO Larry Fink over the past several years even though there remain big, unanswered questions about it.”Webb cites researcher and journalist Cory Morningstar, who maintains that one of the aims of creating “Nature’s Economy” and packaging it via NACs is to drastically advance massive land grab efforts made by Wall Street and the oligarch class in recent years, including those made by Wall Street firms and billionaires like Bill Gates during the COVID crisis. The land grabs facilitated through the development of NACs, however, will largely target indigenous communities in the developing world.–end of popularresistance info–
NACs seem to be the modern version of the Discovery Doctrine –http://ili.nativeweb.org/sdrm_art.html –When Christopher Columbus first set foot on the white sands of Guanahani island, he performed a ceremony to “take possession” of the land for the king and queen of Spain, acting under the international laws of Western Christendom. Although the story of Columbus’ “discovery” has taken on mythological proportions in most of the Western world, few people are aware that his act of “possession” was based on a religious doctrine now known in history as the Doctrine of Discovery. Even fewer people realize that today – five centuries later – the United States government still uses this archaic Judeo-Christian doctrine to deny the rights of Native American Indians.–end of discovery doctrine info–

Our democracy is harmed by a Pyramid Scheme economy that places control according to money rather than governing logic–https://mailchi.mp/nader/the-corporate-demolition-of-our-pillars-of-freedom-sq139rpcdz?e=cfd1bea9b5 –The disposition of the Boeing maslaughtering of 346 trusting passengers and crew in the 737 MAX crashes (Indonesia – 2018 and Ethiopia – 2019) further weakens the system of tort law and individual pursuits of justice after wrongful deaths.–end of ralphnader info–
Americans pride ourselves about our exceptionalism and democratic (small d) action, overlooking the overwhelming contributions of other nations pertaining to freedom and equality—–https://www.facebook.com/billhuston/posts/10225267900741246 — Romanians in Bucharest demanding the resignation of their Government…–end of facebook post—–One thinks the compliance of many of the US public is held in place by loyalty to a branch of the Democratic/Republican duopoly that is the American Capitalist Party. Considering this indoctrination of the public, democracy seems to wane in the USA at the same time democracy remains strong in Europe. What’s up with that?

Why Seed Companies Fear México–But much more is at stake than permits and court orders. These agrochemical companies pursue a global push for GMO agriculture, not just in México. Farmers worldwide worry that companies control GMO seed use (not growers) and that seeds cause permanent environmental harm. Frustrations persistently spread, evident at this year’s UN COP26 and UN global food summit.Luckily law and science are on the side of anti-GMO advocates. –end of popularresistance info–
The violence of guns and disease of bounties are offense to some people. Neither support democracy, and democracy seems implied in the frame work of our Constitutional republic. The unique quality of democracy is that it is acted upon by people, not government. But good governance retain in place laws for equality and freedom, especially as stated in the Preamble to the US Constitution and the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence. Bounties specifically introduce corruption into this system and guns can be used for purposes of intimidation rather than reason——https://portside.org/2021-11-20/new-england-once-hunted-and-killed-humans-money-were-descendants-survivors –or more than 10,000 years, the Wabanaki peoples have been living in a region called the Dawnland. Captain John Smith rebranded the area “New England” in a map he made in 1614. He and the other colonial settlers renamed rivers and villages to claim the land for themselves and erase Native people from their homelands. But that wasn’t enough. Eventually colonial officials introduced a grisly incentive to hasten that erasure: bounties for dead Native Americans.Yes, the settlers whom many Americans mythologize at Thanksgiving as peace-loving pilgrims were, just a generation later, issuing official government orders putting a price on the scalps of Indigenous children, women and men.–end of portside info——————————————https://www.plannedparenthoodaction.org/blog/wtf-an-abortion-bounty-law-in-2021—————https://portside.org/2021-11-20/wisconsin-gop-attempts-seize-control-states-elections————-Citizens United makes legal but not legitimate, buying into public office via campaign contributions politicians of both branches of the Republican/Democratic duopoly, where politicians go about the business of rigging the electoral process. Who couldn’t have anticipated this? Apparently too many of the public who have recently embarrassed themselves by forming voting-rights organizations to plead hat-in-hand for assistance from big-money donors to make politicians act honestly. And so we go……
Evolution can lead to activism rather than intimidation.Received from lakotalaw is a who’s who of Americans—– The big day is rapidly approaching! I can’t wait to see you at our Wopila Gathering on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 30. For now, know that our series of panels will feature a who’s who of talented artists and thinkers from the larger Indigenous community — and I’m excited to share with you a bit more about some of the amazing people you’ll be hearing from during this day-long livestream celebration. First, allow me to introduce you to Jackie Andrews HuckleberryEyes, who will speak on our “Global Activism” panel. Jackie is a Sacred Water Carrier of Lil’wat, St’at’imc Nation in unceded British Columbia. A traditional bear dancer who shares the Bear Medicine in schools, Jackie danced, sang the Women’s Warrior Song, and raised her nation’s flag at Standing Rock in protection of sacred waterways. Jackie supports events dedicated to ending the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous People, and she facilitates in-person and online workshops in drum making, healing, leather, the medicine wheel, and bear medicine. Her presentation promises to be truly inspiring!Next up, I’m happy to announce that Akawui will speak on our “Art as Resistance” panel and share his wonderful music. A singer-songwriter born in Quebec, from Chilean and Mapuche origins, Akawui spent his childhood playing Andean music in the streets of Montreal and Vancouver with his father`s band. These experiences, along with his deep connection with his Amerindian-Chilean heritage, inspired Akawui`s unique musical blend. It merges musical genres including cumbia, First Nations and Andean music, along with the contemporary sounds of EDM and hip-hop. His lyrics convey an awakened and uplifting message, and he says that his primary goal is to break down psychological barriers and prove that it is through union and mixing that one grows and becomes stronger. The final person I’ll highlight for you today is Dr. Tomasina Chupco, a member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. A mixed Indigenous woman (Seminole and Black), Dr. Tomasina will speak on the “Birthing, Growing, and Thriving: pushing back against genocide” panel. She holds a BS in Alternative Holistic Medicine and a Doctorate in Education. The founder of Indigenous Intentions, a jewelry/BIPOC educational brand that donates all proceeds from its MMIWG2s+ collection to the National Indigenous Women Resource Center, she’s also Co-Chairwoman of the “Healing The Circle In Our Tribal Communities Symposium,” which is focused on traumas affecting Native communities.
I think you see where we’re going here. Lakota Law leaders Madonna Thunder Hawk, Chase Iron Eyes, and myself — and the three people I’ve already introduced you to — will be joined by many other, similarly impressive individuals. By attending our seven-hour virtual event, you’ll have access to topical discussions on the things that matter most in Indian Country from 20 amazing speakers, also including SA Lawrence Welch, Dr. T’Karima Ticitl, Cody Coyote, Jimmy Lee Beason, Votan, and so many more. Please visit our pre-event page to RSVP, learn more, and give what you can to support the Wopila Gathering. No one will be turned away for lack of funds, but a donation to support the efforts and voices of the speakers and of Lakota Law is suggested. This is a community effort — and we are very grateful that you are part of this community! This is going to be a wonderful day of thanks, learning, and sharing, and I look forward to seeing you there!Wopila tanka — thank you for uplifting Native voices.
