SONGLINES
As we’re reassessing the exceptionalism of modern-day America, we might benefit from acknowledging cultures that have been around longer.
As a practicing Buddhist with stress on the word practicing, the following ritual is interesting—-https://psyche.co/films/one-photo-per-day-for-more-than-a-year-exploring-how-rituals-affect-memory?utm_source=Aeon+Newsletter&utm_campaign=9ee140bc33-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2022_05_25_05_28&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_411a82e59d-9ee140bc33-70464341 –Harris began the project as a way to enrich his experience of time – both to be more present in the moment and to capture it, describing himself as ‘obsessed with memory’.
This brings to mind the science writer Lynne Kelly’s argument that the powerful mnemonic techniques of so-called ‘non-literate’ Indigenous people far outstrip anything imaginable for most members of societies that use writing. Her primary example is illuminating:
Australian Aboriginal memory palaces are spread across the land, structured by sung pathways referred to as songlines … A songline is a sequence of locations, that might, for example, include the rocks that provide the best materials for tools, to a significant tree or a waterhole.

In meditation I have for many years begun with the current year in life, and worked backward year by year as far as possible. Apparently one should eventually do this preceding birth. Hasn’t happened yet. But this has been a fascinating ritual. At the age of 72, one does this less than one did at the age of 42 for obvious reasons similar to refraining from 72 birthday candles on a cake rather than when one was, say, 22.
The Southern Tier of NYS seems to be a hotbed of citizen responsibility. They know how to identify and honor the heroes.

Perhaps not “coward cops” as much as human beings. In the Southern Tier, one has questioned the call from law enforcement against gun laws promoted by Cuomo, while calling for a “crack down on activists”, and an interesting number of local gun owners shot and killed by law enforcement. Each shooting was investigated and labeled as self defense; but one questions a culture where the average citizen is expected to co-exist among gun owners deemed so dangerous as needed to be shot and killed by law enforcement for the protection of officers. Are we really this demented?
The same mindset about guns may be causing harm to the environment. We need to challenge capitalistic hierarchical Establishment negligence toward Earth and humanity.

Is Biden as grandfatherly as he wants us to think? School shootings are dramatic, while Climate Change is as deadly to children, but slow and less noticeable. Demand that the children get their day in court.
From portside — https://portside.org/2022-05-28/biden-aims-destroy-historic-climate-change-lawsuit –The lawsuit, Juliana v. United States, was brought by twenty-one young plaintiffs in 2015 and seeks to establish a federal, constitutional right to a livable planet. If the case is successful, any federal policies that enable more fossil fuel development could be challenged as unconstitutional.
But the Obama and Trump administrations both vehemently fought the lawsuit, and now those close to the case say that Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) has indicated it will also use every procedural tool at its disposal to prevent the lawsuit from ever getting a trial.–end of portside info—
NYSEG is proposing a substantial rate increase for customers beginning in 2023. Several thoughts—
*https://www.syracuse.com/news/2007/06/spanish_company_to_acquire_nys.html –Iberdrola S.A., an energy company based in Spain, said today it will buy the parent company of two Upstate New York utilities — New York State Electric & Gas and Rochester Gas & Electric.
*NYS has experienced its share of Climate-Change weather with the usual power outages that seem to happen more frequently
*This customer has considered installing a stand-alone generator
*The cost is high but the security would be worth it
*Reviews suggest a troubling number of instances where generators fail just when needed
*The local utilities seem to be privately owned in compliance with capitalism
*If foreign nations own said companies, doesn’t that drain wealth from US local communities?
*Senator Schumer has been vociferous in support for a build out of the 5G network at a time when the local grid isn’t properly functioning. Schumer’s support for boutique technology over mundane grid excellence is troubling
*A reliable local energy source seems important
*NYSEG requests the rate increase ostensibly to switch more fully to sustainable energy production, and to reinforce the grid
*Comparing individually-owned generators with a reliable and sustainable utility company seems to support a rate increase to this end
*If the company is privately owned, one can imagine a large portion of any profits syphoned off to management and shareholders
*Centralization of energy production also seems risky due to weather, terrorism, and accidents
*The only type of energy production that makes sense seems to be a local co-op coordinating with other local co-ops, keeping any profits within the community, and perhaps eventually bringing down rates.
The paranoia about ideas outside of the sanction of capitalism is understood and rejected. But if a system isn’t functioning properly, perhaps new ideas are the answer.
Please allow new ideas to be heard and considered.

Those who didn’t succumb to Democratic Party demands to “hold your nose and vote” in 2020, have nothing to apologize for in the meanders of Biden. There’s something to be said for voting your principles. Let’s give it a try.
The US Constitution doesn’t seem to sanction elections run by political Parties, and to permit control of political debates by political Parties seems equally corrupt.
