UTOPIA AND EXTREMISM
In capitalistic hierarchical Establishment, the idea of utopia is dismissed as unattainable, regardless of the qualification of the American people as “exceptional”. And so policies are in place that actualize profits for the wealthy and pain for everyone else. This is indeed governmental/business policy, and nothing more. It is not accepted around the world. If not Utopia, how about a fair shake. Consider Europe.
https://portside.org/2023-05-25/imagine-renters-utopia-it-might-look-vienna – That’s what differentiates Vienna. Perhaps no other developed city has done more to protect residents from the commodification of housing.
The key difference is that Vienna prioritizes subsidizing construction, while the United States prioritizes subsidizing people, with things like housing vouchers. One model focuses on supply, the other on demand. Vienna’s choice illustrates a fundamental economic reality, which is that a large-enough supply of social housing offers a market alternative that improves housing for all.

Although Austria is not a member of NATO, and is not obligated to contribute a cent to that effort, it does rely on the USA to a certain extent.
Meanwhile in the USA, a public housing fiasco is unfolding with so many people living on the streets, and the US citizen does not have universal health care that would be more equitable and less expensive, while taxpayer money from the USA travels to Europe to protect the interests of European citizens who enjoy socialism. In the USA, the public has been indoctrinated into a paranoia against public well-being, in order to transfer the wealth of the nation to the interests of US and global oligarchs.
This hardly seems fair.
While we are on the topic of pulling the wool over the eyes of the American public, what comes to mind is the statement from a PGA official heard during a C-Span broadcast from Congress about the PGA/LIV merger. The official took a high road by stating that, as to condemning Saudi Arabia for implication in the 9/11 attack on the Twin Trade Center in NYC, he refuses to play the religion or race card (paraphrase). Really? So anyone who questions predatory merging with a nation, (not a religion or race) in attack on the USA, is now to be questioned on this topic? Please…….

8:20AM–guest–paraphrase–when asked the reason Conservatives are late to the table on the topic of Climate Change, the reply was “we are turned off by the extremism”. Also mentioned was a desire “not to hurt our economy”.
Several thoughts–
*The economy delicately protected seems to be for the obsolete fossil fuel economy
*An economy that is more locally inspirational and less devastating to climate seems too challenging for those in the Conservative Climate Change Caucus
*Incidentally the newly-imagined economy would not be beneficial to big-money interest campaign donors
*Extremism seems more descriptive of the reality of the public pertaining to dangerous weather and wildfires, when a word-trick by Mr. Curtis applies that label to the people in distress
Lifestyle change seems unattainable until it is attained. For example, the poverty promoted by Climate Change disasters (insurance companies pulling out of markets, for example), will inevitably lead to lifestyle change when a thoughtful society would predict how best to change our ways to accommodate survival. Another example is the diminishing profits report by Florida’s Disney World. Some people imagine Disney World to be a caricature of the fantasy of The American Dream.
A mature society might wish to install a mature lifestyle. Maturity, boys and girls, may connote restraint. Aside from ego, restraint may not be a negative. The ensuing peace and wholeness may even seem better than the chaos in which too many local-community people live.
Public capture by exceptionalism has reinforced a notion in the USA of competent governance. This Establishment strategy of indoctrination may have spread to Ukraine, where people who currently live in ostensible socialism including universal health care, are laying down their lives to obtain the “Western values” of which Americans are bereft. Consider the following–https://mronline.org/2023/07/12/without-the-2014-coup-ukraine-would-be-living-in-peace/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=without-the-2014-coup-ukraine-would-be-living-in-peace&mc_cid=ef06d1b1fe&mc_eid=2833cdb99b —
There are two main interrelated triggers. The first is the coup in Kiev in 2014. Without this unconstitutional overthrow of power, Ukraine would be living in peace today. Without this coup, for which there is tangible evidence that the United States of America was behind with the help of its European surrogates, there would not be the war we are currently experiencing. It is important to stress that before this event in 2014, neither Crimea, nor the Donetsk region, nor the Lugansk region had the slightest intention of separating from Ukraine. In Crimea, I never heard anyone, either among the ordinary people or among senior officials in closed circles, talk about the possibility or necessity of separating from Ukraine and rejoining Russia. There was no reason to do so.
And even later, within the framework of the Minsk agreements, the idea of the separation of Ukraine from the regions of Lugansk and Donetsk was by no means foreseen, or even raised. It was the supplement of autonomy from the central power in Kiev that was the subject of the agreement, starting with linguistic autonomy: the right of the inhabitants of Eastern Ukraine to speak and use their native language, the language they want and not the one imposed by the new power bearing a more than questionable legitimacy.

In two weeks, it may well cause the rightwing fascist-aligned anti-immigrant People’s Party to come to power in the Spanish elections on July 23.

Capitalism is easy to sell in sound bites because who doesn’t want to live in fantasy land. Utopia is as possible as oligarchy; it’s a matter of intention. With a livable lifestyle, the public may not need to buy a ticket for a week-long vacation from reality in a corporate fantasy land. One’s own question is answered.
Extremism seem to be the euphemism for the people who care, or actually people who care is the euphemism for extremism—–https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydiOJ9fH87M —
