CAPITALISM AND CARTELS

So many words are spoken at the public everyday using words that detour away from actual meaning.  Words are used to terrorize, inform, or confuse and media is often the vehicle of transmission.  When money and power enter into the formula, delusion is possible.  An example is the phrase most of us have heard over decades that “we are a 2-Party system”.  In FACT our system doesn’t require political Parties, and elections surely shouldn’t be run by political Parties.  Yet, this idea is accepted as Constitutional.

People who attempt to express this are often derided as wrong.  At the very least these presumptions are open for discussion.
A definition of cartel  —

  1. an association of manufacturers or suppliers with the purpose of maintaining prices at a high level and restricting competition.”the Colombian drug cartels”
    • HISTORICALa coalition or cooperative arrangement between political parties intended to promote a mutual interest.

Code Pink may be discerned in The House speaking truth to power and receiving derision for doing so.  Lee Camp is a US-censored comedian.  Who are we?—–https://www.projectcensored.org/code-pinks-panel-on-media-censorship-of-voices-for-peace-featuring-abby-martin-lee-camp-and-chris-hedge/       –This week on the Project Censored show, we share audio from Code Pink’s recent panel on Media Censorship of Voices for Peace with Abby Martin, Lee Camp and Chris Hedges. Code Pink’s Jodie Evans talks to them about how they came to speak truth to power, their personal experiences with censorship and what this latest silencing of dissident views means for what’s left of free speech and free press, as well as the importance of these so-called dangerous viewpoints in contextualizing US empire, and combating violent propagandization in the face of nuclear war.–end of projectcensored info–
If influence of Nazi’s wasn’t extant, why  should the US and UK require a “tone’down” of fascist posture?  —  https://moguldom.com/402841/us-and-uk-authorities-to-ukraines-azov-battalion-tone-down-nazi-right-wing-elements/?utm_source=moengage&utm_medium=push&utm_campaign=subscribed                  –Ukraine’s allies in the U.K. and U.S. are asking Ukraine to tone down the Azov Battalion’s Nazi, right-wing overtones.Azov forces have attracted volunteers who are extremists, including white supremacist neo-Nazis, who could pose a future threat to the country. They are now fighting for a Jewish president, Volodymyr Zelensky, whose relatives were killed fighting the Nazis. The battalion has become “fodder for Russian propaganda,” The Washington Post reported.

When we understand the structures of commercial pursuit and especially coincidental to so-called governance, lightly-taken political campaign strategy can take on a darker persona.  In order to maintain any semblance of democracy the electorate would be wise to eschew childlike trust and team-spirit participation in political campaigns in order to secure and display the responsibility of actual citizens in a democratic (small d) Constitutional republic.
One questions the presumption that cartels are bad, Russian oligarchs are bad, American tycoons are good, and capitalism is good, when one understands the similarities of all forms of institutional business whether labeled legal or illegal.
One appreciated the views of C-Span guest Brandon Judd who repeated he wished to inform the public about FACTS without alluding to political posture.  We need more of these discussions.
Keeping in mind the definition of cartels and watching hierarchy expand within the US government that seems natural when we self-identify as capitalistic rather than democratic (small d), the time is now to pay attention to authoritarian propensities.  —  https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/analysis-opinion/ginni-thomas-texts-show-why-supreme-court-needs-code-conduct             –But a promise to recuse is not enough. The Supreme Court is facing a crisis of public confidence, and the justices have shown again and again that they cannot be trusted to police themselves. It’s long past time for a Supreme Court code of conduct — one that anticipates the potential for lawlessness by the justices themselves.–end of brennancenter info——————-This speaks to the potential for lawlessness when the potential for self-interest proves sufficient to degrade our democratic (small d) Constitutional republic.

Having experienced criticism for saying something was complicated, I’ll once again say that life is complicated.  If we have the ability to destroy Mother Earth should we do so for cash, or at all for that matter?  American Indigenous People are reported to have provided ideas to The Founders which ideas are in the US Constitution.  Living on traditional land of the Haudenosaunee, gratitude expands to hope for continued integrity from original residents.  One is interested in the economic success of said groups in NYS, and knows that economic good health needn’t come at the cost of exploitation of human resources or natural resources, aside from greed.  One watches with interest the Oneidas –https://mailchi.mp/oneida-nation/oneida-indian-nation-report-march-2022-cultural-initiatives-strengthen-bonds-with-region-4965133?e=164b4d6ef1    —This year’s State of the County address was the first hosted by the Oneida Indian Nation and the first ever held on Tribal lands, making for a historic event. During the address, County Executive Picente announced the creation of the All Roads FEST debuting in 2023 and a new committee to support the County’s redevelopment district.–end ofoneidanation info–

Referring to the interesting concept of cartels, a point can be made that simple legislation can curtail peaceful protesting.  In Upstate NY a Sheriff lobby has attempted demanding a “crack-down” on activists that could silence the voice of responsible local-community citizens.  In Pa. the law was such that peaceful protesters were not censored by law——     https://popularresistance.org/pipeline-protestors-found-not-guilty/          –While the PA Governor and Attorney General continue to delay halting construction and cleaning up toxic spill in Marsh Creek, local residents take matters into their own hands with direct action and win in court today. “We had no choice but to resort to peaceful protest on an active construction site to raise awareness of the dangers that have not been addressed by the responsible government agencies.”–end of popularresistance info–

This is a reason some people are concerned with the ability of collaboration using Citizens United and ALEC (www.alec.org) on the topic of legislation when we remember the interesting call that “we are a nation of laws”.   It would seem that legalizing money in electoral process invites if not ensures corruption, manifesting the popular notion of cartels. That one situation is demonized as cartels and the other promoted as public/private partnership seems to be semantics.
From lakotalaw–     As we’ve been reporting to you for some time, Big Oil’s most powerful attorneys are attacking the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) at the Supreme Court level. The legal effort is being led by Gibson Dunn, a firm notorious for helping fossil fuel goliaths evade environmental protections. With the Brackeen v. Haaland lawsuit, Gibson Dunn is attempting to eliminate tribes’ rights to keep Native kids in Native care. As you know, Lakota Law is fighting back against this frightening attack on Indigenous sovereignty. We’re preparing an amicus curiae brief — more details on that below — for the Supreme Court’s consideration during its next session. We also recently had a strategy meeting in New York City with attorney Steven Donziger, another of Gibson Dunn’s targets. On behalf of Indigenous People in the Amazon, Donziger won a landmark judgment against Chevron for dumping billions of gallons of toxic waste into the rainforest. Gibson Dunn then used every dirty trick in the book to turn the tables on him, and now he’s been under house arrest for years. We’ll work to connect Steven to resources that can help him find solutions to his legal problems. In South America and North America alike, as Indigenous people, we’ve seen a blatant disregard for our lives played out for hundreds of years. That’s why we’re doing everything we can to ensure ICWA is protected, right now. We know this law inside and out. Former South Dakota Senator James Abourezk, who chairs Lakota Law’s Board of Advisors, was the principal author of ICWA, and a decade ago we were contacted by the Justice Department to propose implementation guidelines. Our amicus brief will make three arguments designed to counter flawed positions taken by Gibson Dunn and the rest of the opposition’s legal team. First, our lawyers will explain that granting tribes the sovereign right to determine what happens to their children is not reverse racism. Second, we will say there is no violation of the U.S. Constitution or the Tenth Amendment when states are required to enforce federal law. And finally, federal, executive branch agencies — in this case, the Bureau of Indian Affairs — must be able to publish and enforce rules and regulations under their purview.ICWA is a well-intentioned, well-written law with enforcement guidelines we know to be solid. Since going into effect more than 40 years ago, it has helped countless children remain with family, live healthy lives, and maintain a deep understanding of who they are and where they’re from. We can’t go back to the days of government-mandated mass cultural erasure. We must continue to stand together for the Earth and our future generations against the fossil fuel industry and its high-powered attorneys, whatever the costs. It’s up to all of us, and your friendship and care mean we can keep fighting for justice, every day.Wopila tanka — thank you for supporting our legal work!

Indigenous dedication and stamina are models—https://mailchi.mp/movementrights/nowornever?e=c2a9194d76                       –Change at this scale won’t come about by just shifting our personal habits while the “free market” economy we didn’t create or ask for continues to run on industrialized global trade rather than local sustainability. The average meal can no longer travel 2,000 miles from farm to fork. We can no longer live in a world increasingly made of industrial waste, toxic water, depleted forests, and where 300 million tons of plastic are thrown “away” each year.So what do we do? Everything we can. We’ll have to take to the streets by the millions, in our communities, across the country and around the world. We’ll have to confront our leaders and shut down polluting corporations. We’ll have to implement solutions that already exist and follow Indigenous leadership to relearn how to live in balance with the Earth and create a just economy.

We’re asking you to join Movement Rights as we also step up our work, including:

WITHDRAWS SUPPORT FROM FINAL PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE–end of lwv info–Murray Bookchin, who founded social ecology, a theory that strongly influenced early Green Socialist thought, strongly advocated the discussion and study group as the first step of any revolutionary movement. A group of individuals meets to expand their knowledge of radical thought and form a radical intellectual community; through the give and take of discussion, can eventually form ideas for next steps in organizing and political activity. According to Bookchin, study groups help create solidarity and a shared language — with a shared coherent vision — for building a mass, organizing, political movement!
